For parents of children 3-10 years old

Come alongside instead of at your kids…and eliminate power struggles, negotiations and meltdowns!

Most parents know what to do when their kids are behaving. It’s when things heat up that we get overwhelmed and forget all the good advice and ideas that made sense in calmer moments.  Family therapist Susan Stiffelman has shown thousands of parents how to be the cool, confident “Captain of the ship” in their children’s lives. Susan will teach you to blend practical, proven strategies with crystal clear insights into what motivates kids to cooperate and connect.

Parents will learn:
  • How to transform frustration and aggression into adaptation and cooperation
  • A foolproof way to keep from losing your cool when kids push your buttons, talk back or refuse to “play nice”
  • How to nourish deep attachment with younger and older kids
  • How to help ADD’ish children survive and thrive, even if you’re ADD’ish yourself
  • How to inoculate kids from the damaging effects of  negative thinking patterns and peer pressure that can lead to anger, anxiety, depression or behavior issues

ADHD: It’s All a Matter of Interest

Parenting the ADD’ish Child

A workshop featuring Susan Stiffelman, MFT

“People with ADHD are very bright, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers.  … I don’t see it as a disorder or deficit, since they can concentrate just fine when interested in something.  It’s the ability to concentrate when not interested that’s the issue.”    Susan Stiffelman, Palisades Post

Come and bring your questions to this parenting workshop!

Tuesday November 10

1:00 – 2:30 PM at the Alexander Dawson School

Child care may be provided

Susan Stiffelman is an educational therapist and family counselor who specializes in working with children, teens and adults with ADD/ADHD.   She has extensive training working with the ADD/ADHD population, emphasizing strategies versus labels, and reframing the negative aspects as potentially valuable assets if understood.  Susan’s an outside-the-box thinker and a dynamo: diagnosed with the ADHD label, she manages to accomplish more in a week than many do in months, juggling writing her book with maintaining a private therapy practice, conducting parenting workshops, writing an online advice column, conducting telephone parent coaching sessions, all the while raising her teenage son.
