The BEST Parenting Book I Have Ever Read
This is the best parenting book I have ever read. Susan’s advice just turned on the light for me and has helped me more than any other book or child specialist I have sought out advice from. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak at a school one evening and she impressed me with how down to earth, personable and approachable she is. She is a pure delight and her advice is invaluable. Thank you Susan!

I have probably read 50 parenting books in my life and this is the best one ever. It is so well written, so right on topic. It is so easy to immediately transfer the info from this book into day-to-day life with your kid. Loved it, loved it. Don't hesitate for a second to buy this one.

A must read for any parent or teacher
As a Preschool teacher and director for over 30 years, I learned more problem solving tools by reading this book, than I have in all my years of trial and error… I find that using Susan's methods, children are much more cooperative, lowering my stress level significantly. This book will help parents, teachers and children avoid many conflicts!! I highly recommend this book. No parent or teacher should be without it!

Excellent book! Look no further if you want to learn how to remain calm with your children.
I've been waiting for this book to come out for a while now, and was so excited to receive it. I swear this author must have been a fly on the wall in my living room when she wrote this book. She describes my interactions with my 5-year-old to a tee: she does something that I don't like, I get angry, she pushes my buttons, my anger elevates, and I start yelling and making empty threats. . . You get the idea. I have noticed a marked increase in my ability to remain calm when interacting with my kids… this is probably the only parenting book that I will ever read cover to cover.

“Parenting Without Power Struggles provides wise and creative ways for parents to offer their best inner gifts to their children. Equally vital, Susan teaches you how to skillfully support your children in developing their own unique talents and gifts in such a way that both you and they will experience a rich, satisfying relationship for a lifetime.”
Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of Agape International Spiritual Center

The title alone is enough to make a weary parent sigh. Finally, a book that… offers concrete, do-able suggestions for accomplishing what sometimes seems to be the impossible: maintaining authority or as the author so lovingly calls it, being the 'captain of the ship,' while encouraging and deepening a loving bond between parent and child. How often have you walked away after yelling at your child out of sheer frustration and felt crummy, thinking 'this isn't right.' Susan addresses so many of our common areas of power struggle, like HOMEWORK. For busy parents (aren't we all?) the book is laid out in short, easily readable chapters…Check it out!!!

Susan has always been the "go-to-person" for families who were dealing with all kinds of different problems with their children. Susan has particularly strong expertise in AD/HD and with this book, she brings her calming voice to all of us who struggle with our children. This book reflects Susan's gift...making all of us feel like everything will be okay and our families will survive to wallow rather happily in this over-whelming world.

I have children and have worked around children (high school guidance counselor) most of my adult life. I have not seen such practical examples and "how to" guidance when dealing with our own questions of why things are not going better in our relationships. Thank you so much for putting my instincts and understandings into words. I will be recommending your book to many parents, teachers and friends.
Mary Kay McCray, high school guidance counselor

Susan has given parents a way of looking at the issues that come up for pre school kids right through to teenagers that makes it clear who owns the problem, where the parents stand and how to reach a resolution in a way that empowers the child and the parent. I can't wait to introduce this book to the parents in our school because most of the issues that are brought up in our Parenting Group really boil down to being power struggles between parents and kids.

“The parenting bookshelf is full of advice on how to control kids, how to handle problems, how to survive the trauma of parenting. This book is different. Very different. It’s about how to let children develop their natural birthright of joy and passion. Not by letting them run wild, but by connecting with them and by concentrating on the heart of parenting—the emotional life of your child (and yourself).”
Lawrence Cohen, author of Playful Parenting
